The Wine Region Penedés

The Penedés region is famous for its wine production, the star of which is the well known “cava”.
The influence of the sun and the Mediterranean sea make the Penedès a privileged territory for winemaking.
In this environment, enjoying the sun in the vineyards, walking through the villages and towns and discovering the great wines of their cellars is a great experience.
There are several cellars spread all around the territory: small properties, big producers, modern premises, traditional cellars… You will have the opportunity to visit two of those properties and have a typical lunch or picnic in one of them.


Option 1)    Visit of Parés Baltá Cellar and picnic at Vilarnau Cellar

Parés Baltà is a family owned winery in the Penedès region with traditions that goes back to 1790.
Its wines are made from grapes grown on its own five estates and are cultivated in an ecological way.
Parés Baltà produces a wide range of high quality wines and cavas that have been both nationally and internationally acclaimed.
A guided visit that uncover the magic world of wine and its history.  A travel though the universe of wine taking you all the way back to the place where the wine is born; namely the vineyards and the winery
After the visit, guests will be able to taste two different wines.
As a contrast to the traditional Parés Baltá cellars, we will also visit the modern Vilarnau, which not only produces wine but also hosts an art exhibition in the underground wine cellars.
We will organise a picnic in the area located in front of the modern building.

Option 2)    Visit of Jean Leon Cellar and lunch at Cal Xim

The real name of Jean Leon was Ceferino Carrión. He created a well known restaurant in Beverly Hills, La Scala, where many Hollywood Stars used to meet up.
His gastronomic experience made him start producing his own wine in the Alt Penedés region. In 1963 he founded the Jean Leon Wine Cellars and was the first wine producer growing Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The style of the cellar built in 1963 is like a Bordeaux-Chateau, surrounded by vineyards.
The cellar has always used and created the newest technologies in order to produce high quality wines. Due to their philosophy of creating high quality and elegance wines, they only produce limited amounts, in order to being able to control the entire process personally. That’s why even though they are using the most modern technologies there are still some tasks made completely manually and in the traditional way.
We will have lunch at the Jean Leon’s preferred restaurant in Penedes, Cal Xim
In a rural, vineyard environment, you will have the opportunity to enjoy top quality local food with an amazing, and sometimes sophisticated touch. Santi (the owner) will introduce you the best quality-value wines of Catalan Country.
